On January 9 from 4-6pm, Our Savior's Lutheran Church is hosting a fundraising event that will support veterans in California. What's better though, is that there is an incentive to donate: freshly caught crab and other meals that you can enjoy with the family. The dinners are to-go, so you can head back to your hotel room and dine in the comfort of your own suite. You'll find that food bought with good intentions makes the meal taste even better! Or at least that's what we think.

The Shoreline Golf Links is open most days from sunrise until sunset, so early birds, late risers, and everyone in between can find a tee time that works for them. Groups of two, three, and four should book a tee time online in advance to guarantee the experience that you are looking for. One of the perks of the course is that players are allowed to choose between walking the course or renting a golf cart for the day. Currently, tee times online are for walking and single-rider carts, although players from the household may ride together.

With all of the beautiful scenery of Mountain View, it is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to walk the gorgeous fairways and green while taking in the surrounding nature. Some of the highlights of the highly-rated course include over 16 acres of water hazards and a 50-acre sailing lake across from the 10th hole. The best place to pick up fresh, local produce is from the Mountain View Farmers’ Market, located about 5 minutes from Hotel Zico. In addition to the incredible and in-season produce, the Mountain View Farmers’ Market was voted as one of the top five in the nation by the American Farmland Trusts’ “Favorite Farmers’ Market Contest”. Well-known for its baked goods and variety of fresh flowers too, the market is open every Sunday from 9 am to 1 pm. Currently, the best seasonal produce includes strawberries, peaches, broccoli, snap peas, zucchini, carrots, lettuces, and fennel. Of course, that selection is constantly changing as the growing season progresses, but you can be sure that the freshest local produce will be available all year long.

The Rengstorff House, constructed in 1867, is one of the first houses to be built in all of Mountain View, California.

Located a little less than 2 miles from Hotel Zico, historic home was built by Henry Rengstorff, a prominent local businessman and ferry operator. He made his fortune running his popular shuttle between Mountain View and San Francisco.

The beautiful building he left behind is one of the finest examples of Victorian Italianate architecture on the entire West Coast. It consists of 12 rooms with 10 and 11-foot ceilings throughout the house.

This exemplary piece of architectural history and local landmark is home to period-appropriate furnishings like brass chandeliers, Eastlake furniture, and push-button light switches. If you are interested in history, the home and gardens at Rengstorff House is one destination you will definitely want to add to your Mountain View itinerary.

Spectacular natural areas can be found quite close to Mountain View. Russian Ridge Preserve, just 13 miles from Hotel Zico, is currently open on weekdays for safe, socially distanced recreation. We wanted to share some information about this enormous, 3,137-acre preserve for future visits.

The open hours of this protected area are from half an hour before official sunrise until half an hour after official sunset.

A few fun facts: Russian Ridge Preserve is One of the best places in the Bay Area to see raptors: look out for red-tailed hawks, turkey vultures, Cooper's hawks, sharp-shinned hawks, and golden eagles soaring over the grasslands. It also has the highest named point in San Mateo County: Borel Hill, which offers a 360-degree panoramic view of Silicon Valley and beyond.

The preserve is known for its showy display of wildflowers in spring—especially poppies and lupines. In summer, enjoy the grassy hills as they glow during golden hour. When the fog recedes and crisp, clean air arrives in autumn, you can see views of the bay and the Santa Cruz Mountains from the ridge tops.

There are miles of forest, abundant natural springs, and diverse plant communities in Russian Ridge’s precious ecosystems. Coyotes often patrol the ridges, and plenty of other native wildlife can be spotted—so prepare for an epic hike during your next visit.

While Silicon Valley as a region tends to have a shared history, Mountain View has its own story to tell. Named for its views of the Santa Cruz Mountains, our town was once a stagecoach stop—but it has origins before that time.

Prior to European missionaries arriving on the San Francisco Peninsula, Mountain View was home to the Ohlone Indians. In those days, Mountain View was likely comprised of rolling hills carpeted in grasses, dotted with California live oaks. In 1777, the Mission Santa Clara de Asís was founded. The Native Americans who worked on the mission used the land that is now Mountain View was pasture for grazing sheep and cattle.

By the late 1800s, Mountain View had become an agricultural boomtown. The economy transitioned from grazing cattle to cultivating grain and hay, and forests were cut down. By 1880, many farmers had turned their lands into profitable orchards and vineyards. The city was incorporated in 1902 with a population of 611. And the rest is history!

So, if you are looking for one-of-a-kind pieces from some of the most talented artists in the area, then you will want to attend the Handcrafted Originals Art Fair. It's the perfect way to kick-off spring.
