Mission Santa Clara de Asis with blue sky vibrant colorful flowers and palm trees

Mission Santa Clara de Asis was first built in 1777 by the Franciscan Order in order to establish a Roman Catholic presence in the area. The Jesuits, also known as the Society of Jesus, took over the mission in 1851, creating Santa Clara University in the process. Located about 20 minutes from Hotel Zico, Santa Clara is the first college in the entire state of California. This beautiful historic mission is open 7 days a week from, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., so you have plenty of time to plan your visit. Mission Santa Clara de Asis is an active church, so please consult the Mass schedule before entering. You will be amazed by the incredible architecture, stained glass windows, and historical artifacts that remain in the church. Established as a mission to serve the early settlers and indigenous people of the area, Mission Santa Clara de Asis is now the spiritual center of the prestigious Santa Clara University.
